DREAMING OF A WINTER GETAWAY? Dale of Norway Norwegian Fair Isle Sweaters Galore

The Matterhorn Zermatt -
flew first class for free LOVE miles
and stayed in a very inexpensive
 budget hotel The Atlanta

That chill in the air already has me dreaming of winter adventures. Ok I'll admit, I've been looking for budget travel ideas for St. Bart's; but on the work front and more seasonally appropos, I have listed ooooh so many Dale of Norway gems and lots of inexpensive replicas by Ralph Lauren and J. Crew and Urban Outfitters:

I am a big fan of vintage style dressing on the slopes, for the "look" and the price of course. These hand knit in Norway gems retail for over $300, get 'em here for less and look like a cozy old school romantic for a song.

The SCOOP on A Leopard and Her Spots

My love for animal prints probably isn't much of a secret. I've been waiting years for Scout to wear this adorable easy leopard print, we nabbed this gem majorly on sale, years ago,at one of our favorite uber- expensive haunts SCOOP in the Hamptons. The key to shop there is just to be patient because the sales never disappoint. We've paired it with her excellent quality crewcuts leggings, a black sparkle shrug from Target (we got one in ivory and in black for cheap easy cover-ups) along with  her Brushed Bronze Bloch Ballets.

Let's Take This Show on the Road, Gucci, Valentino, Prada, burberry, Louis Vuitton, Oscar, Shanghai Tang and Ralph Lauren

It suddenly occurred to me ?????  that I can take my work anywhere, such a gift.  So Scout and I, packed up our dummy and our goods in the truck and went right down the street to the loveliest of vistas - the one that brought me here in the first place.  So we worked and played, photographing clothes and building sand cities, until sun down.

The yard sales this week were divine; from interesting Ralph Lauren vintage military jackets, sweaters, equestrian jackets and denim shirt dresses to Burberry shorts and skirts.  The new with tags Gucci skirt is amazing despite not photographing well. And the blue velvet equestrian jacket is a work of art.  You can buy it all here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/greenstylelist/m.html?_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

If Your Clothes Could Talk? Chanel, Shanghai Tang, Dosa, St. John

...Well let us be frank, my dating wardrobe has to sign very strict Scientology-esque, Iron-clad, Non-Disclosure Agreements.

I've gone through a lot of other women's closets lately and I can't help but wonder, what stories do they have to tell?  There have been numerous estate sales in my town – where homeowners have hired outside firms to sell the entire contents of their home.  Little gives me as much pleasure as digging through someone else’s finery; that may soon be mine, to wear,  sell,  give away,  just look at, or whatever.

At times though the energy in one’s closet can be overwhelming. In one Quogue woman’s bedroom, I had the distinct, eerie feeling that the wearer of these clothes was no longer with us.  Indeed the estate runners said, she had died, just 10 days earlier…cancer.

She had such beautiful clothes... so many clothes,  endless shoes, bags, purses, furs etc…divine outfits with stories to tell…I peeked with a heavy heart…kind of sad, thinking, she wouldn’t get to wear them again.  What would she think of giving them new life?

Today I went to a great sale – tune in soon for the Louis Vuitton bag I scored there… the woman of the house is getting divorced – needs to shed a skin or two – start fresh.

What does your closet need? What would it say about you?   This past weekend a dear friend brought me oodles of treasures from her mom’s closet to sell.  Time for my friend's mom and her dad to downsize. She isn’t one who likes certain kinds of attention, so I'll try to not out her, out of  her closet, so to speak, here. You might think her stylish fashion choices betray that desire to blend.

A gifted mother, and grandmother,  really she is a “mother” to all of her adult children’s friends’ families. Her style beautifully reflects the Hawaiian in her soul and her signature role as the matriarch of their entire "Ohana" – extended family, friends, family of friends, and so on.

She has the taste of the finest of fine; phenomenal taste, earthy with flair; a unique style – clothes with a sense of adventure and finery that evoke dreams of the far away places her adventurous spirit has taken her…oh did i mention the sequins??  and comfortable shoes, oodles of comfortable shoes.  A style after my own heart.  All listed on ebay so you can see and BUY some of her treasures, Chanel jacket, St. John jacket, Shanghai tang stunning scarves, Michael Simon cardigan, Dosa 3 piece silk outfit and more here:

Yes tis true - and i must say the photo doesn't do it justice. Just had to run to the school to pick up a sick child with a belly ache. Why not do it in a fab hand-knit, turquoise and maroon wool sweater from Cooperative; a vintage silk turquoise and maroon silk ethnic print Calypso St. barth's shirt dress; leather Michael Kors belt, my two tone iridescent silk pashimina and my turquoise embellished The Divine Tribe by Chad Ypon   leather bag?

Single Parisienne Purchase

My first experience with Paris and Naf Naf was on my first trip to Europe to play soccer in 1985. At the Naf Naf on the Champs Elysees I purchased my first French Breton nautical striped cotton top.  Scout picked up this NAF NAF putty wool sweater with lovely victorian lace cuffs on her first trip to Paris.  We Recessionistas, did not of course have much cash for frivolous shopping whilst in Paris however we did pick up this wonderful putty pink which is a color that is stunning on most blondes. Scout had outgrown her Goodwill cashmere cardigan so she was due for a replacement. It was about the equivalent of $45 which is a great deal more than I like to spend on sweaters that will so quickly be outgrown but we will get a great deal of wear out of this particular shade of pink.  We paired it with her H&M charcoal star printed putty tunic, her feather print J. Crewcuts full cotton A-line skirt, some cheapy TJ Maxx gray marl leggings and her charcoal leather headband from Anthropologie.

Scout also tried on this stunning putty evening gown at Naf Naf which would have been perfect for the Costume Ball at the Met, but alas we were not invited this year. At a shocking sticker price of 150 Euros, we opted for the ol' try-on and photo op. Price?  FREE.
